My Hair Regimen

Alright ladies!! I’m laying it all out. Below you’ll find my current hair regimen. I figured it’d be easier to detail what I do on a daily, biweekly and monthly basis. Keep in mind though; I change up my hair regimen depending on the condition of my hair. I am not listing my styling products as those change often.

Daily
I moisturize every two days with one of the following leave-ins:
  •         Kimmaytube’s Leave in recipe
  •         Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk
  •         Cantu Leave In Conditioning Repair Cream
  •         Homemade whipped shea butter

I use the L.C.O.(liquid, cream, and oil) method to seal in moisture. I use my own oil mixture, Sassy Curls Hair Oil.

Most women use the L.O.C. method to help retain moisture.

Weekly
I use A LOT of conditioner when I cowash. I said 75% of the jar therefore it’s important that I find affordable conditioners to use. I cowash weekly with one of the following conditioners:

  •         V05 Shea Cashmere
  •         V05 Moisturizing Milk
  •         Garnier Triple Conditioner
  •         Suave Coconut
  •         Suave Shea Almond and Butter

Low maintenance styling – because I have a lot of hair, I wear low maintenance styles throughout the week.  This is a style that requires little to no styling . I will typically leave my hair in twists or braids 3 days out of the week.

Biweekly
Deep conditioning - I deep condition every two weeks using this recipe:

-        ½ cup of conditioner
-        ½ cup of hair mask or deep conditioner
-        ¼ cup of honey
-        2 tablespoons of olive oil or coconut oil

Deep Conditioners:
  •         Queen Helen’s Cholesterol
  •         NuNAAT’s Hair Mask for Curly Hair
  •         Lustrasilk Cholesterol

Shampoo – I shampoo biweekly using one of the following products:
  •         Mop Top
  •         Suave Coconut
  •         V05 Moisturizing Milk

As Needed
Protective styling – Protective styling in my opinion is just as important as low maintenance styling.  It really doesn’t get that cold here in Phoenix however I do tend to wear protective styles from Oct. – Jan. My go to styles are semi mini twists and loose two strand twists.

Heat
I try to limit the usage of heat. When I do use a blow dryer, I always ensure that the setting is on low. I minimize my flat ironing to 2-3 times per year. This year I flat ironed my hair four times which is a record for me.

Trims
I do believe in trimming your ends which I do every 6-8 weeks.

Diet:
Your diet is another important factor when it comes to the overall health of your hair. I’m not as great with my diet as should but I eat plenty of salmon, spinach and fresh fruits. I also ensure that I’m drinking plenty of water daily. I also take vitamins daily as I a vitamin deficiency.

So that's it ladies!! I try to keep things simple with my hair regimen. In the four years I've been natural, I've learned to listen to my hair and LEAVE IT ALONE. I didn't list the products because I said I use so many. I also think though that products aren't as important. It's how you use those products and your overall hair regimen.

Here are some tips on how you achieve healthy hair.
